If you spot a second hand truck for sale and you're
interested in purchasing it, then know that price isn't everything and that a
lower price may hide some traps.
There are a few things you should always do when you're
considering a purchase of a second hand vehicle, and throughout this article we
are going to give you some tips on what to look out for.
Checking the Oil Condition: The Oil Mirrors the Truck!
If you thought we were giving you an advice to check oil
levels then you were dead wrong.
We actually meant that you'd better check the oil's
condition itself, which mirror's the truck's overall health. If the truck was
always cared for and had frequent oil changes, then you shouldn't find many signs
of contamination on both the transmission and the truck's engine.
If on the other hand you find some marks that get you
suspicious, try to look at the truck's records instead.
Rust is Always a Bad Sign: Avoid the Rusty Chassis!
Rust is one of the worst things to spot when you're looking
to buy a vehicle, and it can really hurt your chances of getting a good buy.
Rust that spreaded to the structural level is beyond repair, and it mostly
tells you that you're going to have to put the truck down, scrap metal style!
Unless you want to disassemble it for pats, keep away.
Where are the Service Records?
If you're interested, then you shouldn't make a decision
unless you can see that the service records are in order and that everything is
legal and legit. The truck's repair history can also give you an useful insight
on what the truck is giving problems or what may be the first thing to fail.
If the owner tells you he doesn't have the service record,
then something is pretty wrong here and you should back away immediately.
No price is worth getting yourself into problems.
Can you afford it?
Finally, know that even if you like the price, the truck's
upkeep is a factor you definitely have to weigh too – you don't want to end up
making a purchase to have the truck stick to your garage as you have no budget
to keep it fueled.
These are all variables you should consider when getting a
second handed truck – and most of these tips apply to cars and other vehicles
as well, so bear them in mind!
